Prove Them Wrong
What is impossible for you to achieve? What do you want so badly, but know that it could never happen? Is it the ability to travel? To lose weight? To get that promotion? Unless you have physical limitations or the science/technology has not yet been developed, you can do anything. There are only three things you need to achieve any goal: Passion, drive, and determination.
From Kindergarten, Shane struggled to keep up with his peers. Despite being classified as “gifted,” he did everything more slowly. What seemed easy to understand by others was difficult and didn’t make sense to him. Shane spent hours at the kitchen table doing homework that took most people only a few minutes. His grades were never good. Last week, the University of Wyoming accepted Shane for the fall of 2019. Achieving acceptance into this college was a goal he never thought he would attain. When constantly compared to others as inferior, you start to believe that your dreams are unattainable. Those lives are for other, “better,” people. Not me.
Shane is my son. It has been very difficult to watch such a “good guy” (always the one to protect those weaker than himself and the most affable person you will ever meet) struggle his whole life. Now, however, the fact that he did have to work so hard to achieve what comes easier to others will pay off. Why? Because when you overcome a challenge, it makes the reward that much sweeter. He is so grateful that he is going to University. He will not take this opportunity for granted as he can appreciate how lucky he is to have it.
What challenges will you overcome this year? Next year at this time what will you wish you had started TODAY?
